The Rock Of The Riviera
The Rock of the Riviera operates on 88.4 Mhz and is licensed for an
authorised power of 45KW. The
antenna used by Rock of the Riviera is approximately 1230 meters above sea
level atop Mt Bignone near San Remo in Italy and only a few miles from the
France/Italy border. The system is directional and is optimised to cover the
maximum possible area along the Cote d'Azur. Although it is a distance of about
a hundred miles, the Rock can be heard as far away as St. Tropez. The nearer
communities of Antibes, Cannes and Monte Carlo have excellent signal levels.
The station is co-owned along with Radio International. Both stations feature
programming geared primarily to an anglophone audience. The Rock features
Classic Rock -- the all-time best selling hits of Rock -- from Chuck Berry and
Elvis, through the Stones, Beatles, Zeppelin, Van Halen, on up to Coldplay,
Nickleback and Staind.
The Rock of the Riviera is dedicated to the premise that if you're not living
on the edge, you're taking up too much space.
So, if you are visiting the area, don't forget to check out the station. And,
if you are lucky enough to be there on the weekend, be sure to put the top down
on that rented convertible one evening and cruise the Riviera to the
unmistakable sound of Radio Caroline.
Wilhelm.tel
This is a fibre optic cable network established in the Norderstedt district
of Germany, close to Hamburg. It is
operated by the Ministry Of Works, so if it was a UK operation it would
effectively be run by the local Council. They have 85,000 homes cabled up and we
have our own full time channel. The operators now plan to expand their service
in to Hamburg proper and then extend from there.
NTL Ireland
We
negotiated for a long time to achieve cable coverage here and the deal was
finally closed by our Richard Lavelle. We are now on digital channel 927 full
time. NTL have 100.000 homes connected in Dublin where of course there was once
major FM pirate activity. While we may be sad that most of these pirates have
now been closed down it does create more opportunity for people to instead
listen to Caroline. We are waiting for additional coverage of Cork and
Waterford.
